NOW TIME IS BEGINNING TO FLY, as we enter into the 15th week of our 20-week Body Stress Release course!
In the last month we have covered the Circulatory, Respiratory, Digestive, Urinary, Endocrine and Reproductive Systems! For time to come, I think it is going to be difficult not to expect a written test at 9.00 on a Friday morning.
I must confess however that the DVDs on dissection still manage to make me shudder! Studying Anatomy has taught me an intense respect for those qualified in the medical field!
At times we as students sometimes feel that we are living in a “bubble” down here, intent in our purpose to make a difference in people’s lives. Still somewhat surreal at times …
Because the course is so intense, we are also grateful in a sense that it is so professionally and well run, we follow a rigid and structured programme, which enables us to achieve so much in a relatively short space of time.
During the last few weeks, we were all given a topic that encompassed BSR and had to give a five minute talk. My subject was Wisdom of the Body which I had fun putting it together – it was so well received that everyone requested a copy and I have been asked to submit it for publication in the BSR newsletter! Let me share some of the content with you:
“So many of us go through life in search of that Wow! factor, the perfect creation that will truly amaze us, and fill us with wonder and awe.
How ignorant we are, as with all the searching, we have the most wondrous and sophisticated design at our very fingertips. We are born with it, it is our partner every step of the way throughout our life’s journey. It enables us to feel emotion, pleasure, keep us warm, carry us around faithfully, transport us from place to place and see us through from decade to decade. More faithful often than our best friend.
Some people refer to our bodies as our Temples – how sad that we take better care of our motor vehicles, our homes, our partners, our pets, our careers, our children, better than we take care of our own bodies.
Our bodies are safe havens, the home bases in which we ground ourselves so that we can deal with our fears with grace and clarity. They are wise companions, ever-present witnesses to our experience and guides to the next step. Our bodies’ wisdom is available whenever we take the time to check in and hear what they have to say.
We cannot consider the human body without a sense of awe at its brilliant design, sophisticated far beyond the most intricate computer.
We have come to know that the body is designed to be self-healing. Unlike a machine whose parts wear out, the body is constantly regenerating itself; it is well-known that after seven years every single cell has been replaced.
Every day we take for granted that when we wake up our spines will support our bodies, our muscles will work perfectly, our joints will function smoothly, our brains will operate to perfection, our hearts will pump, our lungs will breathe, our eyes will see, and our digestive systems will digest, absorb and eliminate.
We don’t give it a second thought when our bones knit together again after a fracture, that a cut soon heals and that we don’t permanently have to wear an elastoplast, that a single tear can cleanse the eye, or that bruise completely heals after a few days. Did you ever wonder what makes your body react so violently when you touch something hot?
As part of the BSR circle, we share many stories of hope and re-generation:
Take for instance the 5-year-old child with Down’s Syndrome who needed to be released whilst lying on her mother’s stomach. She had never walked, wore callipers on both legs, wore a nappy 24 hours a day, and had slight scoliosis.
After the 6th BSR session, it was evident that the scoliosis was greatly improved. By the 8th session, her parent’s reported to the BSR practitioner in Randburg that she had stood up and with her teacher’s assistance, had taken her first few steps whilst at school that day!
Another report from a practitioner in Canada tells how her client with Parkinson’s Disease’s trembling had been reduced by 30% after receiving BSR.”
We have also been taught that because the body takes protective action due to stress automatically (mechanical, chemical or emotional stress) BSR can relieve stiff backs, cramps in calves, chest pains (even though the medical report is clear), indigestion, headaches, heart-burn, so called “growing pains” in children, incontinence, boost the immune system, amongst others, as a result. There are many case studies of how crying babies with severe colic that haven’t slept in many weeks, fall asleep immediately after their BSR release.
Now that we are releasing a partner under supervision on a regular basis, we are growing in confidence. We have come to realise that all this knowledge at our fingertips will enable us to bring an improved quality of life to others, and the awareness of the miracle of life.
Our apprenticeship begins on the 31st of August, it has been our responsibility to each find five “clients” who will visit us for three releases each over the course of 3 weeks. This will give us practical experience of running our own practices. The diary is filling up quickly, and one can feel the nervous anticipation amongst the students! I am assisting Serina from Japan in sourcing clients as she struggles with English.
It has been somewhat amusing at how many of the locals have approached us requesting to be a BSR “client” during this time!
My surroundings never cease to fill me with appreciation and joy – with so many natural treasures to discover in this magnificent part of the world – the countryside has been ablaze over the last few weeks with the red Ferrox aloes, like elegant candelabra everywhere. The highlights of my week last week were to see a group of whales just off the Wilderness beach whilst on a late afternoon walk, as well as having a karakul run across our path along the gravel road one morning en route to the Academy. One of my colleagues sighted an Orca (killer whale) this week with its traditional black back and white chest and sides. Interesting to note that the wild female Orca can live up to 50 years with a maximum of between 80 – 90 years! Another unexpected treat was to be introduced to the beautiful Knysna Loerie – the only bird known to have green plumage. Also discovered Buffalo Bay, a tranquil scenic little beach on the way to Knysna.
As a group we recently spent a Sunday in Mossel Bay, about 20 kms from George, visited a cave just below the lighthouse, and took a scenic walk along the cliff (see attached pic). Some of the folk from Holland have brought their husbands and children out to experience SA for a brief spell, and it has been interesting to put some of the pieces of the family puzzles together! How rewarding too to observe how people from other countries are enjoying our stunning country – even going so far as to bungee jump off the renown Storms river Bridge at Tsitsi Kamma! I just know it will not be their last visit either! They are certainly sold on all the Garden Route has to offer.
We have had a very moderate winter, with only a few sightings of snow on the mountains bordering George. Sometimes we have witnessed the mist approach the Academy over the lakes like a tidal wave in the distance, with a somewhat eerie affect! Each day holds a surprise for us, as the weather is always unpredictable, sometimes experiencing 4 seasons in one day.
In my opinion, the people in the town of George are incredibly courteous. I am certainly unaccustomed for shop assistants enquiring as to how one is and wishing one a great day (in a VERY sincere fashion). I believe all the store assistants back home should be sent down here for training!
We have often heard qualified BSR Practitioners telling us students to “hold on tightly for the journey of your life” – and a wonderful and life-changing journey it has proven to be so far …. it brings the quotation by George Eliot to mind: “It is never too late to become what you might have been”.
How wonderful to realise that our group of 25 students, will soon be recognised within the circle of approximately 250 practitioners in 17 countries worldwide (including the Carribean)! As we only have a few weeks left of this incredible journey, one is inclined to want to cram in as much as possible into our treasure chest of memories.
This afternoon I spent a couple of heart-warming hours with my friends from Holland, Ivonne and Hennie who invited me for a walk along the beach to the beautiful Wilderness Boutique Hotel for tea, the view was breathtakingly beautiful, considering that we had to walk up 130 steps (yes, we counted them!) from the beach to the hotel. Sitting on the deck we spotted dolphins in the water in the distance and had a bird’s eye view of people paragliding close by. We could almost sense a hint of spring in the air!
Thank you for all your messages and support during the duration of the course so far. Being so far from home, it is always a joy to find e-mails waiting for me when I sign on in the late afternoons.
Think of me as we gear up for our exams between 23 -27 August: Anatomy Part II, Technique Theory, Technique Practical and Client Management.
Everything is unfolding as it should ….
